More than once, I’ve written about the importance of transparency and authenticity in the business world.
Now it’s my turn: I got nuthin’.
I could create some kind of shallow blog post that is vaguely related to the field of marketing to women, but it would be meaningless to me, and unfair to you.
I’m running on empty.
And I know why:
- Back-to-back trips (I’m leaving later tonight for a speaking engagement in Guatemala)
- Client deadlines
- Work I’ve been doing to finalize the first draft of my next book on marketing to women (more on that soon).
As you can see, I’m still immersed in the world of the female customer. And I know I’ll return from Guatemala next week with new ideas and information to share with you.
But today, I decided to cut myself some slack. Give myself a little breathing room.
Just thought I’d be honest about it. Keepin’ it real…
You’ve had these moments, too, right? What do you do to get through it? Do you give yourself the space you need from time to time? I could use some wisdom and insight from you… after all, you WonderBranding readers are my best friends!

Keep on truckin’ Michele. That’s an inspirational post enough
The answer is simple… and it’s FREE! When we’re running from commitment to commitment, and our time off is spotted with thoughts of the next deadline, we forget to breathe. Lack of oxygen in the blood causes fatigue, foggy brain and the feeling of stress.
A fresh breath not only fills our bloodstream with oxygen, it fills our being with life force energy.
Next time you feel drained, take one moment, 60 seconds, and breathe consciously. With each breath, feel the oxygen as it coarses through your bloodstream. With each exhale, consciously release any tension you feel.
In only one minute, you will feel renewed and clear headed. Imagine how you’ll feel if you keep it up for five!
I’ve been feeling the exact same way, and this is the second blog post I’ve read on the subject, so there must be something in the air. Thanks for being honest about it — it’s really refreshing to see that very few adhere to that tired old superwoman stereotype.
With ya, MM. But I am getting re-charged by Roy right now at Wizard Academy. Thanks for the honest post.
I’m right there with ya!!! We push ourselves too hard sometimes, and end up with major burn out. My suggestion (as a single mom) is to: 1) Recognize when you’re burned out; don’t deny it or make excuses for it 2) Do something for yourself…nurture yourself. Read a few chapters of your favorite novel, go for a massage, turn off the phone, put on your favorite music, and drink a glass of wine…whatever helps you relax. 3) Remember, bottom line, you’re all you’ve got. Take care of yourself, and don’t feel guilty for pampering yourself! If you don’t, who will?!!!
If you take care of yourself, your work will be better, your attitude will improve, and you’ll feel more accomplished and content.
It’s refreshing to see that you’re willing to banish the superwoman myth and take care of yourself. In recognizing that taking care of yourself actually replenishes the energy you need to continue to contribute to woman, you are being an excellent role model.
Thank you.
Totally.
I certainly don’t have the answers, but I have a few thoughts:
1) One person mentioned breathing, and I think that’s a good insight, but there’s also, for lack of a better term, “spiritual respiration.” Breath-in/breath-out becomes asking for benediction and appreciating your blessings. If you’re not alternating between these things on a regular basis, it can turn you blue…
2) You’re probably not reading enough inspiring fiction. Read a short story and see how you feel.
3) Take a 2-day fast from Social Media and the Web. You might be amazed at the change that takes place. And, hey, what’s the worst that could happen?
4) Flip through your rolodex and reconnect with a close friend you haven’t spoken to in a while.
5) Do all of the above.
Hope you feel better, Michele

As silly as it sounds, I go to the local Humane Society and walk a dog. It’s gets you out into creation, you get a little exercise, and your walking partner couldn’t care less about your deadlines, he/she is just appreciates your company. Not sure why, but it helps un-clog my head.
